A business pays $8 to $35 to send a domestic wire and $0 to $15 to receive one on the US bank and credit union schedules we could read. For a company sending 10 domestic wires and receiving 2 in a month, that is $80 to $230 a month. At 60 outgoing domestic wires, 4 international wires and 10 incoming, it is $660 to $1,610 a month. The spread comes less from the headline wire fee than from the online versus branch rate, free wires bundled into an account, and the international line.

We read every figure below on October 31, 2026 from the institution's own published fee schedule or wire page. Where a page shows no effective date, we say so, and "n/p" means the schedule does not publish that line and we did not guess it. Chase, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, U.S. Bank and PNC price business wires through the account you hold and the treasury agreement you sign, and the pages we checked do not give one business figure, so they are not in the tables.

Business wire transfer fees by bank

A wire is charged on the way out, on the way in, and again if something goes wrong. Many schedules also price the channel: a wire sent from online business banking costs less than one a banker keys in for you.

Two reading notes. AuburnBank and Mechanics Bank are the only two where the online rate is half the staffed rate or less, and both require an online wire agreement first. Mechanics also charges a $50 company setup and a $30 monthly fee for the online wire service, so its low per wire price is not the whole bill.

What business wires cost at 10 and 60 wires a month

A fee table is not a price until it meets your volume. We priced two workloads on one company, always at the cheapest channel the bank publishes for a business. Workload A is a small firm that sends 10 domestic wires and receives 2. Workload B is a heavier payer, such as an importer or a title company, that sends 60 domestic wires and 4 international wires in US dollars and receives 10. Setup fees are left out because they are paid once.

ProviderCost per month at 10 out, 2 in (checked 2026-10-31)Cost per month at 60 domestic, 4 international, 10 inWhat drives it
AuburnBank$80.00$660.00$8 online wires and free incoming
Axos Bank$120.00$1,020.00Two free outgoing wires, free incoming
Mechanics Bank$200.00$1,090.00$15 per wire plus a $30 monthly service fee
First National Bank & Trust of Newtown$220.00$1,460.00$20 per wire, $40 international
First Western Trust$230.00$1,510.00$20 online wires, $15 incoming
Great Southern Bank$230.00$1,550.00$20 online wires, international priced at the banking center rate
Bank7$230.00$1,550.00$20 online wires, $50 international
First Mid Bank & Trust$220.00$1,600.00$75 international wire
Orion Federal Credit Union$230.00$1,610.00$15 incoming, $65 international

The ranking shifts with your mix. First Mid is tied for fourth at 10 wires and eighth at 60 because its international wire is the most expensive on the list. Mechanics Bank starts third at 10 wires despite the monthly fee, and stays third at 60, since $15 wires dilute it. Great Southern's international line is priced at its banking center rate ($50) for the calculation, because we found no online international fee on its schedule, so treat its 60 wire total as an upper bound. First Mid's page describes in-person wires, and we assumed the same $20 and $75 apply on its treasury platform. Ask before you rely on that.

Who pays wire transfer fees?

The sender pays the outgoing fee, and the receiver pays the incoming fee, which is why you may see $15 taken off a payment you expected in full. International wires add a third party. Intermediary banks can deduct their own charges on the way, and AuburnBank says so in as many words. If a contract says the supplier is paid "net of fees," agree in writing who absorbs the intermediary charge.

What do banks charge to amend, recall or return a wire?

Fixing a wire after it leaves costs about as much as sending it, and sometimes much more. A wire with a wrong beneficiary name or account number is a recall request, and the receiving bank is not obliged to return the money.

ProviderAmend, recall or return (checked 2026-10-31)Other exception charges
Mechanics Bank$25 per wire for each of amendment, recall and returnWire notice by email $2, fax $5, phone $7
Great Southern BankReturned wire $30 domestic, $50 internationalOutgoing exception processing $50 domestic and $70 international, incoming posting exception $20
Axos Bankn/pManual domestic wire $35, manual international $75
AuburnBank, Bank7, First Mid, Orionn/pNone listed on the page

Most schedules do not list these lines at all, so the treasury agreement is where you will find them. Ask for the recall fee in writing, because a company that sends 60 wires a month will eventually need one.

Are wires more expensive than ACH?

Yes, per payment. A domestic wire costs $8 to $35 each on the schedules above, while an ACH item costs $0.10 to $1.00 in our guide to ACH origination fees. A wire pays for finality and speed: it settles the same day, and it is the normal route for a property closing, a large supplier payment or a payment that cannot wait for a batch. Use ACH for payroll and recurring vendors, and keep wires for payments where timing is the point.

Which business checking accounts have no wire transfer fees?

Few have none, and the free lines are narrow. Of the nine schedules, AuburnBank and Axos do not charge for incoming wires, and Axos waives the first two outgoing domestic wires and the first international one on its analyzed account. Everyone else charges both ways. Some banks waive wire fees on premium accounts, but on the pages we read that was a relationship term, not a published rule, so ask your banker what balance earns it.

How to compare wire fee quotes

Quotes arrive in different shapes, so convert them into a cost per month at your own wires. A short checklist:

  • Count the lines. Ask for outgoing domestic, incoming, international, amend and recall fees, plus any monthly or setup charge for the online wire service.
  • Price your channel. If your team will send wires from online banking, ask for that rate, and ask whether a banker-assisted wire is ever needed.
  • Split domestic from international. One international wire can cost as much as three domestic ones.
  • Ask what is waived. Free wires bundled into an account change the answer more than a $2 difference in the headline price.
  • Ask about the cutoff time. A 1:45 p.m. cutoff, as at AuburnBank, moves a late wire to the next day, and a 4:00 p.m. cutoff at others gives you more time.
  • Check the sister services. The same proposal usually prices positive pay, remote deposit capture and lockbox services, so one bank is not cheap on wires and expensive on deposits.

What the fee schedule does not tell you

Three costs sit outside the schedule. The first is the callback and approval setup: a bank often wants a second approver for wires above a limit, and a lower limit means more wires get delayed. The second is the exchange rate on international wires sent in a foreign currency, where the bank's margin is far bigger than the $40 fee. The third is internal: someone has to approve the wire, confirm the beneficiary by phone and record it, and the accounts payable process is where that control belongs. Once you know your yearly wire count, put the fees on a line in a monthly cash budget and review it each quarter.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a business wire transfer cost?

On the nine published schedules, an outgoing domestic business wire costs $8 to $35, an incoming one $0 to $15, and an international outgoing wire $15 to $85. The low end needs an online agreement. The high end is the manual or staffed rate.

Can I negotiate wire transfer fees?

Yes. Fees on a posted page are a starting point, especially above 30 wires a month or when you keep balances at the bank. Ask for the online wire rate and the first few wires waived, because those scale with your volume.

Why do banks charge wire fees?

A wire is sent individually and settles the same day, so each one needs staff, fraud checks and a risk limit, where an ACH item is batched. The retail fee mostly covers that service and risk, which is why it is negotiable and why online rates are lower than staffed rates.

The short version

Business wires run $8 to $35 outgoing and $0 to $15 incoming on the schedules banks publish, which is $80 to $230 a month at 10 wires and $660 to $1,610 at 60. Pick by your mix of online, branch and international wires, not by one headline fee. Check the monthly and setup charges, the amend and recall fees, and the cutoff time, and price every offer as a monthly cost on your own wire count.
